The number of Sadqa-e-Fitr or Fitrana for the current year has been announced by former Ruet-e- Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-Ur-Rehman. Sadqa-e-Fitr is the basic welfare of any Muslim who has food over their needs. Fitrana must be given after the sighting of the Ramadan moon and before Eid-Ul-Fitr prayers at any time.
Zakat al-Fitr should be paid during Ramadan, at the very latest before Eid al-Fitr prayers, so that the poor can enjoy the Eid day.
After being calculated based on 2kg of flour, the Sadqa-e-Fitr has been set at a minimum of Rs150.
Here is the fitra for different commodities:
- Fitra based on 4kg of barley: Rs320
- Fitra based on 4kg of dates: Rs1000
- Fitra based on 4kg of raisins: Rs2200
Mufti Muneeb also urged people to pay the money to the poor before Eid-ul-Fitr so that they could participate in the eid celebration. Near relatives are the most deserving of Sadqa-e-Fitr, followed by neighbors and the poor.
According to Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman, the true spirit of Fitr and Fidya is a two-time meal for a poor person, so it is preferable to pay for a hotel meal. On the other hand, those who are richer should try to pay more to help the poor and needy in this period of skyrocketing inflation.
Kufara for breaking the fast is to feed 60 hungry people with wheat worth Rs 8,400, barley worth Rs 19,200, dates worth Rs 57,600, and raisins worth Rs 115,200.
“Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar said that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered the people to pay Zakat al Fitr before going to the Eid prayer. (Hadith, Bukhari)”
